BBQ 67: Spalding's Forgotten Rock Festival

About the project

A six-month intergenerational heritage project exploring the story and legacy of BBQ 67 — one of the world’s earliest rock festivals.

The project brings together young people and older residents to collect memories, share stories and explore how music and cultural events helped shape Spalding’s identity.

Why BBQ 67 matters

Featuring artists including The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream and Pink Floyd, BBQ 67 played an important role in British music history, yet many stories connected to the event risk being lost.

This project aims to preserve those memories while celebrating Spalding’s wider cultural heritage, and to provide opportunities to young/upcoming artists.

Festival 2027

The project will culminate in a month-long festival in May 2027 featuring:

  • Live music
  • Theatre and comedy
  • Talks and exhibitions
  • Dance workshops
  • Guided tours
  • Community performances
  • A closing rock festival on the original site
